Life-loving New Look store manager remembers donation to hospice

The KIND-HEARTED colleagues of a Gwent fashion store manager with a boundless passion for life have raised thousands of pounds in her memory after she lost her courageous battle with cancer.

Karen Britton, who died aged 54, was manager of the Blackwood branch of New Look. She amazed her co-workers with her vitality as she bravely fought the disease during the last months of her life.

The married mother-of-one, who lived in Caerphilly and worked at New Look for three decades, was known to generations of clients she served over the years.

Current store manager Laura Evans joined work colleagues to wear pink and reflect on the life of their “inspiring and supportive” colleague.

Laura said: “During Karen’s battle with cancer, she became even more of an inspiration to all who knew her. Karen always thought of others more than herself and continued to spread positivity , even during its most difficult time.”

Such was the love and respect for Karen that a charity event was organized by the South Wales New Look team in her memory.

Laura said: “Together, and with the kindness of our customers and the support of New Look, we were able to raise £3,825 which we donated to St David’s Hospice Care in memory of Karen. We thought it was a wonderful way to honor a remarkable lady who touched us all with her kindness and passion for life.”

Beth Harrington, of St David’s Hospice Care, said: “The hospice cared for Karen in her final weeks in December, over the Christmas period at the end of last year.

“We were moved and touched to be subsequently contacted by her work colleagues to say they wished to make a donation to the hospice in Karen’s memory and in recognition of the care Karen had received from the hospice. .”
