SPAR Ireland ‘significantly’ expands its store network with the opening of 30 new locations

SPAR Ireland has significantly expanded its physical footprint across Ireland with the opening of 30 new stores since the start of October last year, making it the fastest growing retail network fast from Ireland.

The new SPAR locations include a prime site in the recently completed Strand View residential development on Bray’s iconic seafront in County Wicklow, a modern, large-format site in the sprawling Clancy Quay residential development, serving the Islandbridge community significantly expanded in Dublin, another in Carrickmines in South Dublin and the opening of a number of new SPAR stores across the country.

Commenting on SPAR’s recent expansion, John Moane, Commercial Director of BWG Foods (owners and operators of the SPAR brand), said: “A modern and unique store design, a true convenience proposition and a quality offering in all food and grocery categories combine to make the SPAR brand extremely attractive to independent retailers looking to take advantage of new opportunities in the marketplace. »

More than 420 pitches

The addition of 30 stores brings the SPAR store network to over 420 locations nationwide, supporting approximately 14,550 jobs with SPAR Ireland “actively assisting its independent retailers to recruit to fill newly created positions”.

The convenience store group said it is also targeting new openings throughout 2022 and is currently in the process of identifying suitable green sites and brownfields.

“Much of the growth we’re seeing across the SPAR Network has been driven by pent-up demand for new grocery sites caused by the pandemic, and we see a continued increase in the convenience market as a result,” Moane added. .

“While this momentum has already resulted in unprecedented growth across the SPAR store network, we are determined to build on this current momentum by continuing to grow our footprint in all communities across Ireland.”

New housing developments and the establishment of new communities as a result have been and will continue to be a key factor in the opening of new SPAR stores, he added.

Major renovation program

In addition to new store openings, SPAR Ireland, together with its independent retailers, is completing a major refurbishment program across its existing store network, with 20 refurbishments completed since October.

SPAR Ireland has recorded eight consecutive years of sales growth thanks in large part to “strengthening consumer demand for convenience retail options in the city centre, neighborhoods and forecourts”.
